Randy is Argon's General Partner in its Western Canada office, based in Calgary, Alberta. Born in Vancouver, raised in Edmonton, and educated at UBC and U. of Alberta, Randy has a passion for start-ups and mentoring early stage companies in Western Canada. During his career, Randy has spent time in politics and founded four companies including an ISP (sold in 1996) and a software distribution company. He has consulted on telecom strategy, worked in Western Canada's first supercomputing center, and consulted for three governments on VC strategy.
Commencing in 2002, he founded two angel groups and connected numerous investors and entrepreneurs between Western Canada and Silicon Valley. "This is why being part of Argon is really exciting. Our team gets to take great ideas from an underserved market and match expertise from other regions. It's a perfect win for both the investors and the new companies." Currently, he is a private investor and board member of four early stage companies. "I love the adrenaline of innovation in start ups, and being a people person, I love the personalities attracted to this space. At the end of the day, we are investing in people, relationships, and their passion for building legacy."
Randy continues to play soccer, is an avid sports fan, and a lousy golfer. He has traveled extensively delivering speeches on Western Canadian technology opportunities in London, New York, San Francisco, Hong Kong, and Seoul. In addition, he has been quoted numerous times as a spokesman on opportunities and trends in Canadian national newspapers and television.
